York YMCA Swimming – 2006/2007,
A Year in Review
What a year it has been! Yes, it’s been almost a year since
Head Coach Michael Brooks took the helm of the York YMCA Swimming Team in
October of 2006 and we have accomplished a great deal since then. We still have,
and will always have, much more to achieve, but following is a brief listing of
highlights from the 2006/2007 fall/winter and the 2007 summer seasons:
- 2006 Trident TYR Cup Holiday Classic – best York YMCA
performance ever, both as a team and individually.
- 2007 SPY Winterfest YMCA Championship – as a result of
many outstanding individual performances, we placed 7th overall
out of more than 50 participating teams. This was the first time ever
placing in the top 10.
- 2007 YMCA District Championships – numerous individual
champions AND our 9-10 girls and 11-12 girls were Team Champions for the
first time in many years. Additionally, our 9-10 boys placed second.
- 2007 MA Winter Junior Olympic Championships – we
placed the highest as a team in recent York YMCA history.
- 2007 YMCA State Championships – numerous individual
champions AND our 9-10 girls and 11-12 girls were Team Champions for the
first time in many years. Additionally, our 9-10 boys placed second overall.
- 2007 MA Summer Junior Olympics – our combined team
finished 9th overall with our girls placing 9th and
our boys 7th. Once again, this was the first time in recent
history we cracked the top 10.
- 2007 Far Western Championships – as a team (with 17
kids) we finished 15th out of over 90 teams (right behind Coach
Michael’s old team - BEST; next year we’ll get them!). We had many
outstanding individual performances including Far Western champions Chris
Kramer and Sarah Dotzel. Ellen Eline, Noah Stewart, Caleb Tuten, Sada
Stewart, Carly Munchel, Danielle Schaefer and Morgan Oberlander all finaled.
Other points for the team were posted from some excellent relay performances
in the girls 13-14 and 15-16 age groups.
- 2007 USA Junior National Championships – both Julia
Kucherich and Chris Kramer performed extremely well and finaled at this high
caliber event.
- Additionally -
- As a team, we re-wrote our record books by setting
over 60 short course team records during the season. We also have
established long course records for the first time in our history.
- Julia Kucherich achieved her first Olympic Trial “Q”
time in the 200 meter back.
- Chris Kramer and Sarah Dotzel achieved their first
USA National (Short Course) “Q” times in the 400 IM and 100 Fly
respectively.
- Morgan Pfaff achieved USA Top 16 National Reportable
Times in the 200 breast and 100 IM.
- Noah Stewart achieved USA Top 16 National Reportable
Times in the 50 back, 100 back and 100 fly.
Congratulations to EVERYONE for a tremendous year!! As
practice resumes, let’s keep our sights set high and achieve even more this
year!
